Unforgettable Surprise Canoe Proposal at White Magnolia in Kentwood Louisiana

When it comes to creating unforgettable moments, few experiences can compare to a surprise proposal. I recently had the incredible opportunity to witness a heartwarming engagement unfold on a canoe (of all places!) at The White Magnolia in Kentwood, Louisiana. The stunning natural beauty and romantic setting made this proposal truly remarkable. (CAN SOMEONE SAY "The Notebook"?!)

Setting the Scene

Nhu's boyfriend, Garland, contacted me at the beginning of July because he wanted to propose and needed my help. He knew he wanted to use a canoe and "recreate" the scene from the Notebook with a romantic twist by adding lanterns in the water like the movie Tangled.

I knew the perfect location- The White Magnolia. This spot is a gorgeous wedding venue in Kentwood, Louisiana. With its lush greenery, tranquil waters, and charming landscapes, it provides the ideal place for beautiful images.

I posed the idea to Nhu as a styled shoot- a way for me to create beautiful images with the canoe for the owner, Callie, to promote on The White Magnolia's social media. Nhu agreed and told me it may be a challege to get her boyfriend, Garland, on board ;)

The Plan

Garland and I planned that we would do a few photos around the property and then make our way to the canoe. What we didn't plan on was just how wobbly it was standing in the canoe! The poses were a bit difficult but the couple had fun with it and were great sports.

I told Nhu to face the other way and Garland would come from behind to hug her and this is when he knelt down to pop the question.

Capturing the Moment

Following the proposal, we spent time taking lots more photos in the canoe. It was my first time shooting in a canoe and I wanted to use EVERY bit of sunlight we had! The sunset REALLY showed off that day and was just perfect.

We popped champagne and Nhu even trusted Garland enough to pick her up in the canoe. The love they shared was tangible and allowed for stunning photographs that perfectly captured their joy.
